"Its a chip.." he said; a small clinking noise from the surgical bowl echoing through the sterile room.
"A chip?" I asked incredulously.
"I'm sorry to say, " he began, pulling the laser suture above my arm "your actions over the past few months may not have been your own."
My mind racing at light speed, I cry out from the depths of my very soul; lashing out with all my strength I desperately tear at the edges of my bondage.
My pathetic attempts to stop them going unnoticed, my cries unheard; I hear them out there.
"Scalpel please.."
Oxygen masks pop out from compartments above the seats.
Unscheduled Atmospheric Re-entry Imminent! This is not a drill!
The Daedalus drifting ever closer to the deserted planet; her crew having long since perished, her warnings echo through her empty halls.
I made you soup, fixed your bed, and gave you your medicine.
I sat with you when it got bad, your fever just kept rising; my baby boy, you died in my arms.
I touched you, I kissed you, and now I can't stop shaking; they don't know how it is transmitted.
We failed; we had to accept that, hard as it was.
We had spent twenty years here, our life's work, and accomplished nothing.
In under an hour the asteroid would hit the atmosphere, and that would be it for all of us; we failed.
I remember my arm tearing through her; her flesh gave way so easily, like jello.
I killed so many, before I understood; before I finally reigned it in.
They call me a "Superman"; but I remember differently.
The sign changed; displaying the words 'Maximum Capacity Reached'.
I stepped back from the line, and braced myself against the fence; straining to see in the darkness.
The flames lit beneath the rocket, and it lifted into the sky; I watched the last rocket leave our dying planet.
I was starting to sweat; here in the cold, black, darkness I was sweating.
I looked down at the only source of light in the world, a small pedestal with a glowing blue button.
Below the button was one short sentence: Push it or Don't.
I timidly look around the corner, into the dimly lit room beyond; blood crusting on every surface.
My bare feet frozen to the icy steel floor, paralysis overtakes my body.
I never heard him behind me; I never felt the knife as it severed my spine.
