Rain was falling down in droves, onto the concrete sidewalk. He rushed along, hurrying to get to work before he became soaked to the bone; he had forgotten to bring his umbrella. People flew past him in a blur, his splashing footsteps echoing in his ears.

Ahead of him the crosswalk light switched to a glowing red octagon. With his face pointed downward to guard against the cold and rain, he never saw it. No one tried to stop him, as he ran past; all of them absorbed in their own little technological world.

In the cold wet road, a horn blared above the cacaphony of sounds; tires screeching as they grabbed against brakes, desperately fighting against the slippery road and inertia to stop the vehicle. The efforts to no avail, a dense thud echoed through the street; as he felt his body hit the pavement, screams rang out from the crowd who were now pulled from their own singular lives into reality.

The rain poured down onto his bloodied face, each breath a struggle against an impossible weight; his heart palpatating uncontrollably.

With the final beat, a wall of static fell down before his eyes, his worldly sensations leaving him.
After a time, a small flashing white line came into focus, the words displayed:
